Christian Wilkins: Finding your identity and having fun with make-up
From modelling to Dancing with the Stars and reality TV, Christian Wilkins is no stranger when it comes to expressing himself on the creative scene.
The popular Australian fashion identity is loved for his bold style choices, including his bright and playful make-up looks.
He recently chatted to The House of Wellness beauty guru Jade Kisnorbo about where he finds inspiration.
How Christian Wilkins was dazzled by a pop icon
Ever since his starstruck moment with a Kylie Minogue album cover, make-up has played a big part in Christian’s life and self-expression.
“I think any form of beauty, whether it’s fashion, hair, make-up… It’s kind of a form of identity and it’s how I choose to express myself in my art form,” Christian says.
“It is wearable art on your face and body and that is just so exciting to me.”
This creative outlet keeps the male fashionista energised, and Christian says he goes to bed thinking about outfit planning as he hunts for more inspiration.
“I’ll often go through Instagram and screenshot a lot of my favourite make-up looks.
“Once something comes up and I sort of know what I’m wearing I’ll scroll back to the things that I really love and pair it together.”
In the mood for colour
An enthusiast for a colourful make-up palette, Christian loves the versatile strength of bold colours in bringing out the charm of any outfit, whether basic or fully glammed out.
“I typically am always decked out in colour and I really love a really bright pop of colour on the eyes,” he says.
“It makes you happy and it makes other people happy.”
He adds a splash of pink eyeshadow, which seems to be a crowd favourite, encapsulating his fun personality and his love for engaging with other fashion-lovers alike.
The joy of expressing yourself
Christian is known for his iconic gender-fluid fashion aesthetic, and his make-up style serves as another inspiring window to his deep love of making the beauty realm a vibrant outlet for anyone to express themselves in.
Which is why it’s no surprise adding a little bit of glitter is his holy grail.
“I love glitter liquid eyeliner,” he says.
“Sometimes if I feel a bit jazzy, I’ll (use) it on my eyebrows.”
Whether it be in the make-up, beauty or fashion space, Christian Wilkins will always find a way to spread some fun and positivity.
