Delta Goodrem: Celebrating love, life, and music milestones

From engagements and anniversaries to launching her own record label, it’s been a big year for pop superstar Delta Goodrem.

After a year of meaningful milestones, Delta Goodrem has discovered looking backwards is part of moving forward.

In 2023, the beloved Australian songstress became engaged to her long-term partner, musician Matthew Copley, celebrated the 20th anniversary of her first album, Innocent Eyes, with a long overdue international tour, and took full creative control of her future music by launching her own label, ATLED Records (yes, that’s Delta spelt backwards).

The award-winning singer-songwriter, actor and TV personality also marked 20 years cancer-free.

Marking 20 years cancer free

Diagnosed with Hodgkin lymphoma at the age of 18, just after Innocent Eyes was released to widespread acclaim in 2003, Delta had to shelve the planned tour to undergo treatment, making last year’s live shows more “poignant and special”.

“The Innocent Eyes anniversary came up at quite an amazing time in my life and reminded me of a sense of freedom, curiosity and boldness you have as a teenager wanting to make your dreams come true,” she says.

“Reminiscing of those times might have been one of the sparks that inspired the new venture and some big-girl decisions lately!”

A romantic proposal

One of those life-changing decisions included saying “yes” to her guitarist beau Matthew’s proposal during a holiday in Malta last September.

With Matthew, Delta has gained a greater appreciation for the simple things in life, revealing her “happy place is at home in front of my TV, with a glass of wine, my partner and my cat Beanie by my side”.

Passionate about their work, the couple have been too busy making new music to start planning their big day, but Delta enthuses, “We’re excited to get to it soon”.

Balancing work and personal life

Of course, the in-demand, multitalented star is always busy.

And whether she’s performing music, acting or doing charity work, spreading positivity has always been a driving force.

Much like her friend and mentor (the late) Olivia Newton-John, Delta has used her own cancer journey to help others, through the Delta Goodrem Foundation.

“My core intention from day one has always been to connect with people and then, as I’d gone through my health challenge, to give back,” she shares.

“I don’t take for granted that there are a lot of people out there that may have gone through, or will go through, their own journey and that being open about my own might be of value, whether it be awareness, comfort or an ear to listen.”

The power of lipstick

Understanding the physical and psychological toll that diagnosis and treatment can take, Delta is proudly throwing her support behind International Lipstick Day.

The annual fundraising campaign sees revenue from Revlon’s lipstick sales donated to the Look Good Feel Better cancer charity program.

“I love their messaging of empowering people in the fight and giving them that extra boost of confidence to get through their tough days,” Delta says of the program, which offers cancer sufferers free beauty treatments.

Like many, Delta has often relied on lipstick for a quick and effective confidence boost, admitting she reaches for a slick of red for an “extra boost of strength” or a soft pink gloss to feel feminine.

“I swear there must be some magical powers around lipstick wearing, or at least some deep psychology behind it,” she says.

“It is such a big part of a woman’s look that I do believe it can affect our moods and the way we go about our day.

“It’s been our thing for centuries, making us feel better, sexier, bolder.”

The Delta Goodrem Foundation is joining forces with Revlon to celebrate International Lipstick Day on July 29 in support of Revlon’s longstanding charity partner, Look Good Feel Better. The charity supports women, men and teens undergoing cancer treatment through its free, national community-service program. Revlon will donate $2 from every Revlon Super Lustrous lipstick purchased at Chemist Warehouse locations between July 11 and August 7 to Look Good Feel Better.
