Why Angie Kent will be ‘forever grateful’ for The Bachelorette despite break-up

Bachelorette star Angie Kent has revealed her heartbreak over her split with Carlin Sterritt – but says she doesn’t regret a thing and will now focus on rebuilding herself.

The couple, who met on the reality series last year, announced their break-up on their respective Instagram accounts earlier this month.

Angie, who is back home with family in Queensland, says her focus for the rest of 2020 will be on “rebuilding myself and getting myself back to the Angie before The Bachelorette”.

“The fun loving, carefree Angie who says it how it is and knows that she is enough! Warts and all,” Angie, 30, says.

“I will also be focusing on my family and friends and some amazing work adventures coming my way. And hopefully buying my very first house!”

A rollercoaster romance ride

It has been a tough month for Angie, who is leaning on family, friends and “an amazing therapist” for support post her public break-up with Carlin, on top other hardships in her personal life.

“I was hiding in bed a lot for the first couple of weeks dealing with all the feels and the constant speculation for over a month that Carlin and I had broken up when in fact we had not. We were taking time to navigate what was going on,” Angie says.

“I was hassled by paps outside my house, (there were) constant calls from media and untrue articles being written about us when all we were doing was taking time out and trying to gain some clarity.

“After all that it led to us eventually breaking up; the fear of heartbreak and a public one was quite tough.

“I am navigating it all and dealing with all the feelings and thoughts as they arise. I am back home in Queensland with my friends and family, and have an amazing therapist who is helping me.”

WARNING FIRST CORNY COUPLE POST ALERT! I recently read from one of my favorite modern day poets @yung_pueblo ‘make sure the walls you build to protect yourself do not become your prison’ I built up some big ol walls over the years. I have my reasons. We all do. The reality is none of us are going to be a walk in the park to be with. We’ve all suffered or are suffering from something. That’s life. So when you meet someone willing to see past these walls and committed to understanding you and want to grow with you…. don’t let past conditioning, ego or pride get in the way. You knew. Even when I doubted you because of these walls. You were patient with me. Thank-you for fighting for us and knowing what we have was real and pure from the very beginning. You are exactly what I wanted and more coming into this. I love you my Noh Noh @carlinsterritt ? Finally, thank-you for coming on this adventure with us. I can’t even begin to put into words how grateful I am for the people who put their heart soul into this show. Everyone works so incredibly hard. My dream team. You know who you are. Thank-you. The End….Fairytale style. The beginning of real life! x @bacheloretteau #bacheloretteau

‘I got to fall in love for the first time’

After their romance played out on TV screens, Angie admits it has been hard to deal with the public scrutiny now they have separated.

“As much as people seem to think I am just some character on a show, I am a human just like everyone else with huge feelings and my own personal life going on, on top of navigating this relationship and then having to accept the fact that it didn’t pan out the way I thought it would,” Angie says.

Despite the romance not working out, Angie adds she has no regrets about appearing on the reality show.

“The universe would not have sent me this adventure if the universe didn’t think I could handle it, and grow and learn something really magical about myself and others,” she says.

“Plus, I got to fall in love for the first time. I have loved and lost this time, but I would rather that than still being scared to not love at all. For that I will be forever grateful.”

Looking to the future

Angie says she is practising “lots of self-care and surrounding myself with people who love me for me” as she deals with the break-up.

“I am finding my groove and keeping busy and making sure I take the time to really dig deep and learn and grow from every experience that comes my way,” she says.

She has a special four-legged friend – family dog Ruby – helping her heal, too.

“It’s so nice to have her around. Just knowing she’s here is enough to make my heart feel full. I am slowly getting myself back into a healthy routine and I am getting back into my exercise,” she says.

In an interview conducted earlier this year for The House of Wellness July liftout, Angie discussed how pets can help our mental health and how she has been looking after her wellbeing during the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Animals are game-changers when it comes to your mental health,” she says. “They just become your best friend.”

The House of Wellness July liftout is available in Chemist Warehouse stores and News Corp Sunday papers including the Herald Sun and Daily Telegraph this weekend.
