9 keto dessert recipes to satisfy your sweet tooth

A keto diet doesn’t mean you have to sacrifice sweet treats. These delicious sugar-free desserts get the keto tick and are easy to whip up.

The key to a good keto dessert is to make sure the macro nutrients are in the correct ratios – resulting in a sweet treat that is higher in healthy fats, moderate to low in protein, and has very low to no carbs, says House of Wellness TV co-host Luke Hines.

“As long as these ratios are adhered to, the sky is the limit when it comes to a low-carb, sugar free, keto treat,” best-selling clean eating author Luke says.

Which ingredients are not keto-friendly?

Typically when it comes to keto desserts, you should avoid highly refined or processed sources of carbohydrates and sugars, Luke says.

“That means no below ground starchy vegetables or high fructose fruits, no grain-based ingredients such as flour, bread, rice or pasta, and certainly avoiding higher carb sweeteners such as maple syrup, honey, coconut nectar or agave syrup, not to mention your typical cane sugars,” he says.

“When it comes to sweeteners you can’t go past monk fruit sweetener,” Luke says.

“Derived from an ancient fruit, you can find keto-friendly monk fruit sweetener in the form of liquid-based syrups and granulated varieties suitable for baking and blending.”

Other keto-friendly dessert ingredients include:

  • Nuts and seeds
  • Desiccated coconut, coconut oil and coconut cream
  • Low-fructose fruits like berries
  • Raw cacao powder, cacao butter and cacao nibs
  • Full-fat dairy such as cream cheese or thickened cream
