Crucial steps for healthy skin

Achieving healthy skin doesn’t have to be complicated. In fact, much of it comes down to fighting the signs of skin sensitivity.

There might not be a universal formula for clear skin, but there are certain principles you can adopt to promote healthy skin.

There are five signs of skin sensitivity you should look out for: a weakened skin moisture barrier, dryness, roughness, irritation and tightness.

Now you know the signs, here’s how to tackle them.

Protect your skin moisture barrier

The skin on our face is delicate and should be treated as such, but certain factors can compromise our skin moisture barrier and make it prone to irritation.

Avoid harsh and abrasive skincare ingredients, instead use nourishing ingredients such as hyaluronic acid, which help strengthen the barrier.

Stay hydrated

Whether it’s caused by a lack of moisture in the skin or environmental factors such as cooler, drier weather, introducing a hydrating moisturiser may help alleviate dehydration.

For those with naturally dry skin, look for a rich and emollient moisturiser.

If you have a combination skin type, try a lighter hydrating formula, focusing on areas where your skin is particularly dry.

Regularly exfoliate

To reduce rough, textured skin, use a physical or chemical exfoliant.

You also need to moisturise in order to combat the underlying cause of flaky, rough skin.

If you have sensitive skin be sure to use an exfoliator specifically designed for sensitive skin such as Cetaphil Face Daily Exfoliating Cleanser, or else you could do more harm than good.

Identify irritation triggers

Stinging, inflamed skin are common symptoms of sensitive skin.

The easiest way to avoid problems is to avoid known triggers, such as hot showers, ensuring you wear an SPF and use sensitive skin friendly products.

Nourish your skin

To avoid uncomfortably taut skin, you will want to keep your skin nourished by using a gentle body wash.

Cetaphil’s Gentle Skin Cleanser for Face and Body is a great option because it is soap free, fragrance free, is suitable for all skin types and can be used on the face and body.

It actually hydrates while it cleanses.

A moisturiser that hydrates the skin and helps prevent further irritation is also integral for nourished skin.

Something recommended by dermatologists* is a great place to start.

Cetaphil’s Moisturising Cream, for example, is clinically proven to double skin’s moisture in just 48 hours with twice daily usage.

It doesn’t get much better than that.
